Life in the United States has never been easy for immigrants, refugees and asylum seekers. But now, following record deportations during the Obama administration, we have a new president elected on an explicitly bigoted, anti-immigrant and anti-LGBT platform.
The Chicago LGBT Asylum Support Partners (CLASP) provides direct aid – housing, local transportation and other necessities – to LGBT asylum seekers in Chicago fleeing anti-LGBT discrimination and violence in their homelands.
As the days for our foreign-born LGBT neighbors perhaps go from bad to worse, please stand up and be counted as one of those who proudly SUPPORT LGBT asylum seekers as they begin a new life in the United States.
Please come to a house dinner party fundraiser for CLASP, 5 – 10 pm, Saturday, January 28 at the home of Andy Thayer and Aldo Hernandez in Chicago’s Uptown neighborhood, 4745 N. Beacon Street. Suggested donation is $35, or a gift of your choosing. RSVP to LGBTliberation@aol.com by January 16th.
