With the record number of deportations by President Obama and the frankly racist opposition by most Republican leaders to even the mildest concessions to the rights of immigrants, the drive to secure citizenship for millions of undocumented immigrants has hit the shoals of political deadlock.
In the meantime, the estimated 11 million undocumented immigrants, many who fled violence inspired by U.S.-supported oligarchies abroad, live lives of uncertainty and fear of deportation.
