Last night we were saddened to hear that LGBT leader Nelson Arambu of Honduras has died.  <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Nelson was an activist for LGBT rights and freedom for his nation’s 99% in the most difficult of circumstances.<\/p>\n

Honduras has had by far the world’s highest murder rate since a U.S.-supported coup d’etat overthrew their elected government.  While Nelson died of brain edema (swelling of the brain), many of his fellow LGBT activists have died in politically motivated murders at the hands of a government and wealthy oligarchy armed by the United States.<\/p>\n

Those of you who had the pleasure to attend his meeting last July that the Gay Liberation Network co-hosted with La Voz de los de Abajo and the Chicago Religious Leadership Network will remember Nelson as a sweet, modest man with a first-rate intellect. <\/span>He spoke cogently to a packed house on a wide variety of topics.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

We will miss you, Nelson.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Your loss is a huge one for our international LGBT movement, and for the people of Honduras, who have lost so many others already.<\/strong><\/p>\n
