At 6 p.m., Jeremy Kauffman blew an air horn, prompting participants to suddenly collapse on the sidewalk and causing a bit of confusion among the dozens of tourists and other non-participants. As the participants continued to lie still ( and hold signs stating statistics about the LGBTQ community ) , GLN's Andy Thayer spoke against LGBTQ-based hate and discrimination. Thayer continued despite the protestations of a single anti-gay individual.

After a few minutes, "die-in" participants got back up and chanted, "Hey, hey! Ho, ho! Homophobia's got to go/Hey, hey! Ho, ho! Transphobia's got to go!"
