Candlelight Vigil For Gay Suicide Victims

GLN permalink 10-2-2010

Please join a candlelight vigil at "The Quad" of DePaul University's Lincoln Park Campus in honor and memory of Tyler Clementi, a student at Rutgers University who committed suicide after being "outed" as gay by his roommate. The Quad is located just south of Fullerton Avenue, two blocks west of the "Fullerton" el stop of the Red/Brown lines.

For more on Tyler's story you can read NPR's article:

http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=130242650

Please come to both honor the memory of this gay student whose life was ended because of hate, discrimination, and ignorance. Also come to show solidarity for the gay rights movement. Gay discrimination isn't over, it's a current issue that we should all be involved with. Please take 30 minutes out of your day to show that DePaul, and Chicago, IL will always remember Tyler and his story, and we will fight for a better life for all gay people.

Please bring a candle so that we can light up the Quad with solidarity.

Don't let his death be in vain.

For a great answer to those who claim their "Christian" condemnation of LGBT people has nothing to do with LGBT youth suicides, see Dan Savage's spot-on response to a recent letter:
