GLN ANTI-WAR NEWS

GLN members arrested at Bush protest

GLN members Andy Thayer and Buddy Bell were arrested by Chicago cops early Monday afternoon following their attempt to block the Bush motorcade as it was departing from the Union League Club located in Chicago's Loop. Two others, members of the Pro-Palestinian International Solidarity Movement (ISM), were also arrested. Andy and the others carried a large banner denouncing US war in Iraq.

Late information as of about 11 PM Monday evening is that 3 of the protesters will be released on their own recognizance, but that Andy is being charged with felonies including aggravated assault (on a police officer) and resisting arrest, and that he would be held for a bond hearing on Tuesday. I witnessed the incident at Jackson and Dearborn, and can attest to Andy's being wedged between two horses and a cop on a segway. He was the one assaulted and it is likely that the police and States Attorney's office seized an opportunity to "throw the book" at a troublesome rabble rouser.
